Annadale
HISTORY
Annadale is located on the South Shore of Staten Island, NY in zip code 10312. The town was founded by the Huguenots, a group of French Protestants inspired by writer and Christian theologian, John Calvin. Annadale, established circa 1860, was derived from Huguenot settler Anna Seguine, the wife of Staten Island Railway treasurer, Stephen Seguine. In 1923, the shoreline of Annadale was purchased and developed by Spanish settlers. This 18-acre plot of land was once known as the Spanish Camp. It faced New York Harbor and was inhabited by Dorothy Day, a journalist being considered for Sainthood. Today, Annadale’s cottages and bungalows have been replaced by luxury homes.
